385788 2005-09-03 07:06:00 My computer, running Windows XP professional, told me that the short cut to one of my CD drives was not working. I deleted it and went to my computer to create another one. The drive was not there. I then went to 'add new hardware', and tried troubleshooting. I was told that the CD drive was working perfectly. And yes there it was among the list of hardware available. But when I tried to troubleshoot, there ensued a series of lockups freezes whatever they are called with absolutely no chance of ending task, and three hard reboots, with the usual lost chains etc. I still have no shortcut to my CD-ROM. How can I get one? GS
PS, if I place in game in said drive it seems to run automatically as usual.

385792 2005-09-03 13:22:00 Maybe you've got a bit of malware. I've just reading up on trojans et al (was looking for info about RAM but got sidetracked) and AFAIK nasties can do strange things like that. You know about getting of spyware/adware/whateverware? There's a FAQ on it here at pressf1, at the top on the left. m mark c (247)
