385562 2005-09-03 02:19:00 Hi there guys and girls. I have just received my free IPOD from a competion that I won on www.Isubscribe.com. Entered a competetion and won it. Cool. Any way it has finally arrived and want to import all the music I have already put onto my comptuer off my CD's but I Itunes interface wont pick it up. What format does it need to be and is there any way around ripping the 3gigs of music that is already present.

Any help would be greatly appreicated.

385563 2005-09-03 02:31:00 What version of Windows are u using?

If XP, does it show in My computer, as a removable disk?

Is USB 2 onboard? Which Ipod is it? What version of Itunes??

Did it come with the USB cable / docking thing?

If you copy the music across as though you would to a removeable disk, the iPod cant play it

There are python scripts you can run if you have an iPod Shuffle, but thats because the shuffle database works different from the main iPod.

You _really_ needa use iTunes to copy the music

I didnt say I copy straight to the Ipod did I??

I dont copy it across when its a removable disk. BUT I use the hdd option and use Winamp and the plugin for the Ipod.

Works just as good, if u dont want Podcasting, or buy songs thru itunes. Which I dont bother with.

I use it more as a removable disk than I do as an Ipod, for adding contacts and adding things to its calendar.

Not sure if I understand what your problem is, going by the other replies, but the way I see it, you have 3 gigs of music on your computer which you may have been playing through winamp or some other program, but you want to export it to your brand new ipod . Presuming your ipod is linked to your copy of itunes, all you need to do is go to File/Add Folder to Library and choose the folder where you keep all your music . The itunes library will be populated with your mp3s, and then you can update the ipod .

However - if you already had itunes installed before you got your ipod, then the two may not be linked . If that's the case, and your problem is with iTunes not recognising your iPod, then that's a problem someone else around here may be able to solve . . .
