385534 2005-09-02 21:33:00 BBC's Click Online featured a simple but very useful free program called DeskPins.
Here are the details plus another freebie from the same site.

DeskPins v1.30 can be used to make any application topmost, that is, to keep it above all other windows. Just grab a pin from the DeskPins icon in the system notification area (a.k.a. taskbar tray) and click on any window. This functionality is identical to the "Always on Top" setting found in some programs. With DeskPins you can add this feature to any program! Here it is (users.forthnet.gr)

Features
* Unlimited number of pins available.
* Intelligent handling of various application types.
* Powerful wildcard-based automatic pin support.
* Global hotkeys.
* Negligible system resources usage.

TaskArrange is a simple utility that lets you rearrange the buttons of the Windows taskbar. Find it here (users.forthnet.gr)

Sometimes we open our programs in a specific sequence, to keep their taskbar buttons in a desired order. But what happens if a program crashes or we close it, and then we open it again? That's right - its task button ends up last in the taskbar. Windows itself does not allow us to move the task buttons around, so we are stuck with two options: either accept the new order, or close everything and reopen them in the preferred order. TaskArrange brings an end to this annoyance, by letting us do exactly what we want: reorder the task buttons.

Several other free programs are also on the site.

Know of any good freebies? Let us PF1ers know by adding to this post.

385535 2005-09-02 22:06:00 Re Deskpins... I'd almost pay not to have that functionality built into some applications that have to be manually minimised.

But that Click Online is quite a cool BBC programme though - very useful for newbs.

Agree - there should be a program that turns OFF the "Always on Top" function.

DeskPins gives us the option to choose windows to stay on top. Hmmmmnnn, will have to test if it can make a On Top by default to be not on top.
