| 386391 | 2005-09-06 09:01:00 | I want to use my suse (linux) bootloader as my only bootloader, instead of choosing windows from my the suse bootloader, then choosing a windows version from the windows bootloader. I also want to add a boot from disc option . So hopefully my bootloader would look like: Windows XP Windows 2000 Suse Linux CD/DVD Drive Floppy Drive And choosing windows xp would go straight to loading XP, bypassing the xp bootloader. How would I go about this? |

| 386396 | 2005-09-08 10:02:00 | SuSE uses Lilo? Have a read of this (www.labdv.com) and check out his lilo.conf (www.labdv.com). The CD/floppy boot order would be handled by the BIOS. |

| 386397 | 2005-09-08 10:27:00 | Suse uses grub, not lilo, unless theres somewhere to change the bootloader type. As for the boot from cd/dvd, I understand that you can change the bios, however i find that i'm booting from discs quite alot and id like to be able to chose that option rather than slowing down my boot time. |

| 386398 | 2005-09-08 11:03:00 | What you are wanting to do is not possible as far as I know. MS Windows requires the NTLDR to boot and Linux needs either GRUB or LILO to boot. What you are doing is chain loading which is what you have to do. YOu can either chain load: 1. with NTLDR first in the MBR then to GRUB in the / partition or 2. with GRUB in the MBR and refering to the NTLDR Each OS requires it's boot loader. |

Thanks for that, i wasn't entirely sure it was possible. However im sure i read somewhere were u can have just one bootloader. Are there any 3rd party bootloaders that you know of that would do this. |
