| 386315 | 2005-09-06 00:26:00 | The ipod 20gb has suddenly become unreconisable, on the computer, also will not play. MP3 only on it. The pod shows up on My Computor as "F" and show the folders, when the folder is clicked it says I/O Device error. When trying to access thru Itunes or Musicmatch it comes as as not accessible. Connected thru USB2 on a XP SP2 COMPUTOR AMD 2600 512 ram. USB is working and as said above shows the floders but connot access them. Have reinstalled the disk but do not want to reinstall update as it will wipe some 4000 songs my son has on it. Any ideas or does he go back to an empty disk and try again :badpc: |

He hasnt been taking it out of the dock (if it has one), without ejecting it has he? It might need resetting. Has he tried it in another USB port? Does the post screen detect it, when you boot up? Or does it appear in the BIOS? |

| 386317 | 2005-09-06 00:58:00 | Thanks speedy. No he says he hasn't removed it before disconecting. Also tried other USB points and all the same. Have tried removing thru device manager, on startup it picks it up as a USB mass storage device etc but then can't read it. Itunes says it cannot read and to use software update to restore to factory settings but I believe this wipes all data on disk. We are hoping there was some other way but maybe not. Any other ideas :help: |

| 386318 | 2005-09-06 01:09:00 | Hmm, and I take it the MP3's (or copies of them), arent on the hard drive? It would have been easier to format / reset if they were . The only other thing it maybe, is the USB cable between the IPOD and the USB 2 port . The cable on the dock (if it has one) is plugged in properly? |

Thanks for your assistance speedy. PS: Now I know why you call yourself "Speedy" with those quick replies   |
