Copernic - it indexes the same way as Google and it is free. However check another post because one member found out that you have to add .doc to the search options. You can do this once though and then it is fine.

386661 2005-09-07 08:37:00 I really like Google Desktop Search, free from http://desktop.google.com - though I am beginning to feel a little nervous about google - are they positioning themselves for world domination? annie (6010)
386662 2005-09-07 21:04:00 Ava Find free download here (www.download.com) Nothing is faster, as it finds the files instantly - gotta try it to believe it.

Also Google these freebies: XFind and Find Grep

386663 2005-09-07 22:55:00 Thanks. I'm trying out Effective File Search - like the ability to search for data within a file too. pctek (84)
386664 2005-09-08 03:38:00 Correction: XFind should be Xteq Find. This, and Find Grep, will search for data withing a file. Ava Find will only locate names of files but since it is instantaneous, its quite useful. Strommer (42)
