387076 2005-09-09 02:50:00 I have just purchased some new speakers (stereo with sub) because I thought it would be nice to play music CDs while I work.

I recently made a complete new box... new m/board etc, everything new except hard drive with Win XP pro on it.

With previous setup (ie old motherboard and onboard sound) I only got sound through one speaker.

With new setup... m/board with onboard sound I still only get sound through one speaker. I have reinstalled the Realtek AC97 sound drivers and no change.

As I've swapped the m/board/sound card/drivers/speakers I'm thinking it's a problem somewhere in Windows, but all settings appear to be ok.

Any suggestions?

387077 2005-09-09 11:15:00 Did you do a fresh install of XP when you used the old hard drive in the new machine? Jen (38)
387078 2005-09-09 12:06:00 have you checked or your settings like in (sounds and audio devices) it could be that your settings are only set to play in one of the speakers so just check all your settings and stuff Mr_Rain313 (7944)
387079 2005-09-09 14:05:00 Make sure that the "BALANCE" setting for the speakers is set to the middle. You may need to enable the "ADVANCED CONTROLS" in the the Windows volume control 1st to get to the "BALANCE" settings.

387080 2005-09-09 20:29:00 No, I did a 'repair' install of XP when I changed the HD over. (I did have AC97 on the previous m/board as well) Pleeeease don't tell me that I should do a clean install for the 20th time :(

I have checked all settings in AC97 device properties... volume, balance, stereo etc

Have checked props in WMP

Have reinstalled AC97

Have reinstalled DX9

Have cleaned my ears out (in desperation!)

I'm thinking maybe I should go and buy a seperate sound card and see what happens then.
