386980 2005-09-08 22:13:00 I am trying to update my sound drivers. I have a soundblaster audigy 2 and I just wanted to know the proper way to install the new drivers.

Am I supposed to disable the old ones? Also I am supposed to have my onboard sound disabled right. I just wanted to make sure that it is disabled. How would I do about checking that?

Would there a be a conflict or problem if both onboard sound and my sound card were enabled?

Thank you for your help. :)

386981 2005-09-08 23:00:00 Normally, its better to disable onboard sound in the BIOS. Or you may get conflicts.

Then chuck the new card in. Hopefully windows detects it. If it doesnt install the new drivers from CD. If the file on cd is an exe file, it should install the drivers for the card.

You may have to reboot, to get sound from the Audigy.

386982 2005-09-08 23:12:00 If you're trying to simply _update_ them, we're assuming they're already working, correct?!

What you really want is to run the main .exe file that you get from the Creative.com website. It'll take you through the install process and install some additional software probably too :)

Once you've done that, right-click on My Computer --> Properties
Click on the Hardware Tab --> Device Manager
Find your soundcard
Right-click on it and select "Update Driver".
Tell it to automatically search for it

This will ensure that it picks up the latest just in case the Setup you ran just before didnt 'force' the driver to be used :)

Oh ok. So I wouldn't have to disable my current sound drivers right? I was just wondering because when it comes to upgrading my graphic card drivers, I am always told to disable my current drivers before installing the new ones.
