| 387137 | 2005-09-13 21:34:00 | wrap it up in several layers of gladwrap then stuff it in the freezer for a couple of hours.......then remove it from the freezer and unwrap it then try to ghost it or otherwise retrieve the data........it MAY work. well after a bit of looking into i decided to give it a go, just over an hour in the freezer and it was recognised by bios and knoppix (which sees the data), yet to retry it under xp pro but it didn't show up at first (did try it under xp first)???? have reconnected the clicky hard drive as slave on secondary ide channel now what? how to get the data off the drive???? trueimage doesn't see the disk current pc is configured as primary hdd on master ide1, cd-writewr on master ide2 and buggy drive slave on ide2, have forgotten all my extremely limited unix/linux use (over 4 years ago now) - not sure if i can identify other pc (lan) to copy files to (35 gig all up) is ntfs gonna be a problem, as i've tried copying the data to my primary hdd under knoppix (drag and drop under konqueror??) but it didn't seem to like that |

| 387139 | 2005-09-13 21:39:00 | of course as soon as it's plugged in and fired up it starts to heat up......so......freeze it then plug it in.......then thump it a couple of times and then try to copy/ghost/retreive the data........quick as you can......and maybe keep an extra fan running on it to help cool it........ | drcspy (146) | ||
| 387140 | 2005-09-13 22:16:00 | yup, have left it "plugged in " all night and still seemed ok but know where you're coming from, just wondering how to copy data off (hopefully keeping directory structure (how to do that in dos? i've always had to mkdir the copy = Pain In A** = young GUI puppy lol) hopefully it xp might start seeing it then awaaaaaaaay i go |
