386997 2005-09-09 03:53:00 How hot is the CPU's heatsink? If you can't hold your finger on it it's too hot. I'm tempted to think that it's overheating. That could be the reason for the long beep. Graham L (2)

386999 2005-09-09 04:12:00 Thanks Graham. I'll try that when I get home. RR-S (8447)
387000 2005-09-09 04:13:00 1 long beep (endless loop) Will check memory also. Thanks RR-S (8447)
387001 2005-09-09 04:16:00 Anyway, the fact that you get beep as a fault indication probably means that the motherboard is OK. If it was dead, it wouldn't know. ;) Graham L (2)
387002 2005-09-09 04:16:00 I forgot to mention. I installed a new power supply unit.
Could this be a potential problem ?

Thats poor logic, I have seen many motherboards allow Windows boot and be used extended periods of time before system crash...

The presence of a beep is in no way an indication that the board is healthy.

387004 2005-09-09 04:24:00 No. It is a hard drive from my redundant damaged motherboard. Windows installed. On first boot, I got to the desktop, Then the above trouble started. Thanks

You will be in trouble anyway, even if you get past the boot stage.

You cant just use a HDD with operating system from another computer, the drivers will be all wrong, unless the motherboard and hardware are the same. To do that all drivers and devices should have been removed first, or do it in Safe Mode.

I suggest you format your hard drive and reinstall windows. It is advisable to do this with a new mother board, if you don't you end up with problems like you are getting.

387006 2005-09-09 04:56:00 Forget windows, forget the HD, unplug it.

Boot without it, if the system gets as far as asking for a boot source then boot off a live CD, UBCD or a linux distro.

If the comp isn't even getting past boot then the OS has nothing to do with the current issue.
