387177 2005-09-09 08:39:00 Hey everyone.

Does anyone use Slingshot Ignite?
It is "5 Times Faster" than their normal dial up apparently.

I know this isnt possible really on a 56k modem.
But for the $3 a month more it could be worth a small gain.

Is it like there old Xelerator Service where you had to download a program?

Any Info would be great,

Cheers, Luke.

387178 2005-09-09 08:45:00 Never mind, On further investigation to Xcelerator, it redirects you to ignite and says you have to download the progam.

Cheers.

387179 2005-09-09 08:50:00 Quicksilver dialup had something similar when I had an account with them.
IIRC there is a small download, that increases the speed of opening webpages.

It does work, but then it will never be adsl

387181 2006-04-16 06:11:00 Sorry to drag up an old thread but was discussing this plan with someone recently and I couldn't remember how this "faster dialup" thing works. Anyone here kind enough to explain please? :)

And is it really worth having until they are able to get ADSL?

387182 2006-04-16 08:09:00 All it does is compress the data before it is sent to you (it won't make much difference, if any, to downloads). I've never used it, but I personally wouldn't bother when you can get the cheapest Jetstream plan for $30 per month which while not really proper broadband it would be better than the "faster dial-up" you are referring to. maccrazy (6741)
387183 2006-04-16 08:19:00 It'll be the same as this (www.ihug.co.nz)

It'll be just as fast using firefox, flashblock and adblock

Its only a faster way of downloading whats on a site, not faster downloading as in files.

maccrazy : The person in question is wanting to get ADSL but right now circumstances do not allow it.
