387007 2005-09-08 23:15:00 The end of yesterday brought with it a birthday present which was 2 months early... needless to say I was ecstatic at the early arrival of a monitor which is 2 inches bigger than the one I was planning to buy at the end of the month. Mrs chief has good taste and of course I will have to be on good behaviour for at least the next 2 months.

The monitor is a 19 inch PolyView V293S (reviewed in the July issue of PC World) and looks really good... the only snag (and I haven't mentioned this to Mrs chief) is the response time of 21ms. In the PC World review it does say that the monitor isn't exactly suited for gaming... however I will not be staring a gifthorse in the mouth and will keep my gob shut with regard to that.

My query though is what would be the optimal resolution for this monitor... at present I have it at 1280x720.

It looks pretty good, I did have it set to the max of 1280x1024. Any other 19 inch monitor users out there with some comments? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

cheers

387008 2005-09-08 23:32:00 1280x1024, unless by chance it does 1600x1200.

Personally I just stick with 1280x1024 :)

387009 2005-09-09 00:25:00 Is a a CRT or LCD. Sounds to me it is a LCD. If it is stick to 1280x1200 which would be it's native resolution. If you change it things well start to look strange.

387010 2005-09-09 00:42:00 The PolyView V293S is an indeed LCD and it's native resolution is 1280x1024. Mackin_NZ (6958)
387011 2005-09-09 01:15:00 1280 x 1024. I've had my Viewsonic for a week now and even with bad eyesight I find the resolution ideal. JJJJJ (528)

Well . . . . . . . . . I NEVER let my partner choose my hardware . If he was to buy me some and he has a couple of times, he gets the EXACT specifications off me first . In fact now, he just pays for it and I order it which works out a lot better .
Tricky situation but you could go out and buy Mrs Chief a present back - like an item of clothing that is completely the wrong size . . . . . . hint, hint .

I'm very much against you. If Mrs Jjjj wants to buy me something good luck to her. If it's the wrong thing I can always change it. I'll accept anything. :p

387014 2005-09-09 03:50:00 I really don't care whether the specs are what I've wanted or not... it was the thought behind the present. She's not exactly techno savvy but her heart's in the right place. So yeah maybe I could have gotten an 8ms monitor, but I don't really care... at least I have a 19 inch monitor and that's all that counts.
