| 387465 | 2005-09-11 06:07:00 | Bought some 'Cross-Stitch' software for my wife to use. Tried to install it on my new XP machine via the DVD drive but the PC was unable to see the disk. Didn't auto-run so I selected 'run' but just got a message 'Insert CD in drive'. Had a look at the drive thru Win Explorer and it didn't see the disk there either. (I inserted a couple of other disks in the drive and the PC detected them no trouble.) I then threw the CD in the old Win98 machine and it loaded up fine. What would cause a new PC not to detect a disk that an old PC can see? In something that may be related ... from time to time the DVD drive seems to go to sleep and won't eject. It seems to happen when a game has been played a few hours earlier and the PC has not been used for a while. Any ideas? |
