| 387614 | 2005-09-11 19:29:00 | Gidday! Where can I get the best info on what this is and whether I should use it? My new pc (gaming mostly), is unstarted....but have decided on a Pentium D 3.2 cpu so far. Is Raid 1 the most likely setup for me? I back up my everyday data to dvd, and dont really care about losing data due to hdd failure (if thats one of its main points) ....appreciate any facts...thanks |

| 387617 | 2005-09-12 09:23:00 | raid is easy to run, you don't notice it running, windows just thinks the 2 drives are one drive and treats it as such. no special saving etc needed. only thing to watch is selecting what stripe size you want as this will influence realworld speeds. set a poor strip size for what you use thepc for and it will run slower than a single drive. | tweak'e (69) | ||

On that page the difference looked like zilch, but on the page before that (p1) i thought it showed some gains? Will go back and have a look shortly, incase I skimmed over it too fast tho :D |

| 387623 | 2005-09-12 22:13:00 | You did notice the fact that it says there is no real performance gain??? generaly you will get performance gains but only if you use the right type of raid chip with the right stripe settings and with the right type of pc useage . very easy to get it wrong and have a slower pc as a result . check the reveiw sites for speeds and what stripe size is fastest with your type of useage . |
