388263 2005-09-14 01:11:00 Fax uses an analogue modem protocol so isn't compatible with ADSL. If you have an ordinary modem as well you may be able to use that on your phone line in parallel with your DSL modem. PaulD (232)
388264 2005-09-14 01:11:00 No

You need to have a dialup modem to use fax

388266 2005-09-14 03:01:00 It's probably not working because it isn't set up properly. ;)

It is plugged into the phone line? :D

Try setting it up for a dialup connection to your ISP. See if it connects. If that works, the modem works, and will work as a fax.

There are a number of settings, which you might not think of, which will be handled by the Wizard. (e.g. there are number of different standards used by the phone systems afround the world, for things like dial tone, ringing cadence, etc. If your modem is looking for a "non-NZ" dial tone, it will report "no tone").

388268 2005-09-14 03:02:00 Is it still plugged in with the right cord? It should be via a filter so that you don't upset the DSL modem. PaulD (232)
388269 2005-09-14 03:16:00 Other way round. The filter is to stop the ADSL signals upsetting the other "telephone" stuff. Graham L (2)
388270 2005-10-16 03:52:00 Hi, need some info . - thought had seen this somewhere but cannot find the post!

Am looking at Broadband options - Slingshot appears to have a good value plan - 2Mbps-3GB-$50 - if tolls through Slingshot .

We have our telephone line through Telecom and use Faxability . Can we change our tolls to another ISP, keep the line rental with Telecom and still be able to use Faxability (etc)?

Will appreciate a reply .

388271 2005-10-16 05:41:00 Welcome!

This will depend on your Telecom plan, and if the line rental is a "bundled product" with the ISP in which case it all depends what the ISP can offer or resell .

Its easiest to ring 123 and ask Telecom directly, otherwise the answer is yes, no, or maybe .

Or ring the ISP and ask the same question?
