388237 2005-09-13 22:42:00 I have windows XP, whenever I open the user account picture selector, (to choose what picture i want to appear in the start menu next to my name) the window opens then immediatly closes. Same thing happens when I try to see basic, or advanced information about my computer from the help and support thing. I've done a scan for viruses and spyware/adware nothing was wrong there, so i cant think of what else would be wrong.

Thanks!

388238 2005-09-13 23:03:00 Try this
Click the start button then Run, In this box type sfc /scannow , ther is a space after sfc .
This runs the windows file checker and will replace any damaged or missing files.
It will ask for your installation cd if it finds anything wrong.

388239 2005-09-13 23:10:00 Quite likely Sfc won't run either, nor msconfig, and probally not regedit.

What virus scanner are you using?, hit it with something heavy like Nod32.

388241 2005-09-14 02:13:00 OK I downloaded Nod32 and did a scan, found nothing.

(Sorry I double posted, there is, oddly enough, no edit button on my last post)

388244 2005-09-14 04:48:00 How many user accounts do you have on your computer???.
If you have more than one log of yours and log on to another user.
Try changing the picture etc.
If you are able to your user account may be corrupted in some way .and you may have to replace it.

Also, make sure that the Help and Support Service is running. Go to Start/Run and type in: services.msc. From there scroll down to Help and Support and make sure the service is set to Automatic and is Started.

If the option is greyed out or Help and Support Service is not listed trying running these two edits.
