388592 2005-09-15 14:10:00 Hi,
Im currently choosing a Socket 939 mobo.
Have Dynalink Rta300 external router, but have never considered how it works, (workded just fine tho). So now that Im building new pc, Im not sure what features I need on the mobo.
If I have an external 10/100 router, what do items like Dual LAN with Gigabit LAN (on mobo) or 54mps tell me, that will help me choose?
Am perhaps interested in wireless too, so relevant info would be great for that too....
Cheers! :D

(the cpu is amd64 x2 if that helps)

388593 2005-09-15 20:31:00 If it says the mobo has dual gigabit lan then it has 2 RJ45 connectors for 2 network controllers. Basically that means it has 2 network controllers which are capable of 10/100/1000Mbps network speeds. You should be able connect your router just fine to that mobo.

cheers

Your high speed ports will automatically slow themselves down to work with whatever you plug into them (if you plug in something that doesn't support 1000mps, like your router).

If you connect your computer to another computer with gigabit LAN (either through a gigabit switch or a crossover cable) then you will be able to transfer data between the computers almost as fast as you can transfer data between 2 hard drives in your own machine.
