388323 2005-09-14 17:29:00 It kinda reminds me of my "naughty" days when I worked for a large multi-national company. I simply used my browser (the company at the time was silly enough to allow downloads and installs by their operators) to investigate the entire network, including access to, if I'd wanted, the MD's private emails.

So, if you've got a browser and you're connected to the network... nuff said.

388324 2005-09-15 02:38:00 There was a discussion on this subject earlier this month. Use the "Search" button at the top of this page, and enter "copernic". The first thread that gives will be the one you want (unless this one overtaks it when I enter this ;)).

Copernic seems to be well thought of. And it's free.

388325 2005-09-18 13:57:00 I want to find information through the dozens of document files on my hard drive and local network… I’m trying to find the fastest and the most functional program .

Copernic Desktop Search (http://www . copernic . com) - is not bad . It can index and search documents in text formats, as well as mail, audio and video files tags and images . Copernic Desktop Search by right features the most user friendly interface . But this tool can't search through * . chm files, for example . And there is no LAN support .

Now I’m testing SearchInform ( . searchinform . com/download/searchinformdesk . exe" target="_blank">www . searchinform . com) . It looks good to me… This tool has high indexing rate, small index size (15-20% of the actual size of textual information) . It supports all formats of text files, (including . pdf, . html, messages from Outlook and Outlook Express, mp3 and avi tags) and correct work with archives . The most interesting feature of this program is technology of search for documents similar in their content to the query text . But interface is slightly overloaded with functions .
imho – must have…

What can you say about it?

388326 2005-09-26 10:02:00 Download SearchInform (www.searchinform.com)

Folks, can anyone comment it?
your advices?

388327 2005-10-04 13:36:00 I have tried Google Desktop Search (desktop.google.com). It can index and search documents in text formats, as well as mail, audio and video files tags and images. To be remembered: in order to show the application which files and folders to index, you have to install an additional component gdetweak. Without this add-in Google Desktop Search will index the whole information on user computer and in the network of the enterprise that it can access. Google Desktop Search by right features the most user friendly interface. But the only way to fine tune the application is to install additional components. This is a major disadvantage. The promised search of documents with a similar content (in the Internet originally positioned as similar pages) is quite wretched. Hedin (8887)
