388435 2005-09-14 22:58:00 Hi, my problem is I can't delete or add new folders in the Shared Documents folders where I keep our family's photos .

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition, SP2 . I have Norton Internet Security 2004 and am using its firewall; Windows Firewall is turned off .

Previously I had been messing around with networking to get my old W98SE computer hooked up to migrate data (successfully) . I also tried to get a work laptop under XP Professional (unsuccessfully) . Basically I stuffed things up since at one point Shared Folders disappeared entirely, but I managed to get it back . After this the Access is Denied message started appearing .

Permissions are 'Read Only' on all subfolders in Shared Documents and I cannot reset these - this is where I also get Access is Denied .

To fix it I've read posts in Press F1 and tried:
(1) Turning on the Guest account .
(2) Going into Safe Mode, logging in as Administrator, and changing file permissions in the security tabs in Properties .

Neither of these works; I still get the Access is Denied . Should I start fiddling around with the network - I don't need it anymore?

Any tips gratefully received!

Can you read "open a picture" in that folder? if there is one .

Have you ever used "Encrypt contents to secure data"?

388437 2005-09-14 23:50:00 Hi, yes I can see and open all pictures. No I've not used encryption. BubbaNZ (8888)
388438 2005-09-15 00:15:00 I am not to sure, but it sounds like it was shared using a different account than you are currently on now. IE Share using "BoB account" and now your using "John". However having said that the Administrators log in should not have a prob. I would avoind using the "Shared Documents" folders and just set up a "Pictures" folder in the root directory or something which complicates things less.

Anyway maybe this link may help you figure out whats gone wrong.

support.microsoft.com

Keep in mind Network share permission and NTFS share permissions are two very different things, and have a accumlative share permission effect.
