| 388371 | 2005-09-14 22:12:00 | Right, Im down to 2 choices of cpu 1) Athlon64 x2 3800 2.ghz (dual core) 2) Athlon64 4000 2.4ghz Are the speeds of these for gaming, a lot different? I know about the use of the dual core x2 and how it wont make a difference for gaming, but if the speeds of these 2 are quite close, i wouldnt mind having the new dual core. Do I take the speed difference to be between the 2 and the 2.4, or are there other factors? (and is that a lot of difference if so) Your thoughts O knowledgeable ones? Know of any comparison tests between these? :stare: thanks... |

| 388374 | 2005-09-15 06:09:00 | Ask again in a couple of years. Often, "new improved" hardware needs new improved software. And the software people have to find out how to use 2 cores. They'll get it wrong sometimes, so that two cores will run at 1/4 the speed. :D Anything which takes advantage of parallelism in the hardware is very difficult to programme. It's even harder to programme so that it runs efficiently. :( |

| 388375 | 2005-09-15 06:13:00 | If it were me I'd buy the 3800+ dual core. The difference between that and the single core 4000+ for gaming would be minimal and you could overclock the 3800 if you wanted to :D You also then cover yourself for when games come out that do use dual cores. |

After reading all the guides and comparisons, Im glad I took the time to ask. (and that you all took the time to answer more likely!) Will go for amd x2. Any brand of mobo to stay away from or go towards, in socket 939? Id like a works burger with all the extras... :o |
