389116 2005-09-18 05:49:00 I'm thinking of buying a 1Gb "Run Disk" USB Flash Drive. I often need to transfer graphic stuff and other material from a PC using OS W 98SE to a laptop running XP. Before buying or not I need to know if there would be any compatability problem with installing the software on both machines where the transfer of the data is between two different operating systems or dosn't it matter? willbry (1555)
389117 2005-09-18 05:55:00 By the look of previous posts, rundisk flash drives are cheap but crap.

Files should work fine, if theyre only graphic / jpegs you're xferring from one to the other.

If u mean the program for the flash drive, it should work on 98 and XP.

XP shouldnt need drivers, it may detect it and install drivers for u anyway.

389118 2005-09-18 06:08:00 Everyday I transfer files between, Win2K and an Apple iMac OS 9.2. using Run Disk 128Meg, no problems in the last 3 months. The files are jpg's, .txt's, .psd's, .FH9's, .PDF's and other types. Win98SE being FAT, you will have to format the Run Disk to FAT to use it. Think XP won't care. zqwerty (97)
389119 2005-09-18 06:23:00 Most flash drives will only let you format in FAT/FAT32, not NTFS. Speedy Gonzales (78)
389120 2005-09-18 06:24:00 Somebody mentioned here (www.pressf1.co.nz) the other day that his Windows 98 PC will not recognise his 256MB flash drive but has no problems with a 128MB drive of the same make.

Something to think about if you plan to use one that is 1GB.

389121 2005-09-18 06:45:00 you will need to install the drivers for it to work on win98se.

my 1gb mp3 player works on win98 if i install the drivers that came with it. make sure you buy a well known quality brand, so you know it will last.

389122 2005-09-18 08:04:00 you should have no trouble with using flash disk in windows xp, it will be able to detect it once plugged into a usb port. Usually only windows 98 machines need special drivers. As Prescott said buy from a good brand so it will provide drivers. STi (8857)

389125 2005-09-18 08:42:00 Do you have USB 2 on your win98 machine? if you only have USB 1.1, it will be painfully slow. Greven (91)
