388836 2006-01-15 05:57:00 I hope I'm not repeating any thing but I scanned the previous posts briefly and I didnt notice this. Are your drives set to Master & Slave or CS Cable Select? Very important detail. If its cable select the master is at the end of the cable and the slave is the middle connector. My apoligies if I'm stating the obvious.

388838 2006-05-12 09:28:00 Hi All,

Been a long while, thought I should contribute my experience to the forum .

To sum it up, here is the history
Seagate HD shows periodic problems (sometimes cannot detect at bootup), eventually it is also playing up after it has been booted and sometimes it got so bad my whole window just freezed and died, no such problem when I unplug the seagate drive . Did a snoop around and one of the suggestions for window freezing is that the drive is faulty . Since it was still under warranty, got it swapped ( have to pay for postage but they were very quick to replace it with a "new" repaired drive ) . Plugged it in, everything was fine, then my Maxtor (primary) drive started showing the "EXACT" symptoms!! And because it is a slightly nosier driver, I noticed that it "clicks" a lot (it also did on the seagate but I don't hear it that often because it is quieter), soon the symptoms grew more frequent .

Spoke to a friend who experienced "clicking" on his drive and he told me it could be the power supply . So off I went to invest a little on a "480W Tagan TG480-U01 PSU" plug it in and RESULTS!!! Not only did all the symptoms go away, the PSU is extremely quiet and as compared to my original PSU it weighs so much more and feels really sturdy . Took me months to get to the root of the problem but it was an interesting learning experience . Thanks to all for your help .
