389605 2005-09-20 08:52:00 Calling all linuxians!

I have a development server set up running Slackware 10, no X just CLI.

I've found the PC quiet noisey, so I modded the PSU and case fans. Now I have a switch that changes them from 5v to 12v. I was going to stick them on 7v full time, but I didn't notice muchg difference between 5v and 7v.

Anyway, what I'm after is an application that can monitor the case/cpu/system temperatures much like MBM (Motherboard Monitor) does in windows.

The only thing is, it needs to be able to run without X.

Anyone have any ideas?

389608 2005-09-20 10:51:00 You will need to install and configure lm_sensors first. You can find the relevent information on doing this here - Lm_sensors (secure.netroedge.com). Have a look at the documentation section. You should be able to find a recent packaged file for your distro if you google around if you don't wish to compile it from source. :) Jen (38)
389609 2005-09-20 10:58:00 You only need to run sensors

blah@blah ~ # sensorsI get something similar to Jens when I run the above command (sensors)

389610 2005-09-20 12:58:00 Ever thought of the likes of VNC? Chilling_Silence (9)
389611 2005-09-20 22:08:00 I don't think VNC would work as I don't have a GUI running nor installed on the machine.

I've built/I'm building a web-based interface-type-thing where I can monitor things like user quotas, traffic, etc.

But after the recent issues I've had with heat, it would be nice to have the temperatures there too.

I was also considering a cron job that'd check the temps every so-many minutes and play the mario tune with BEEP, email me or shutdown if it got too hot.

But I need to work on those sensors first.. Hopefully I can find the time to do it today.

389612 2005-09-20 22:28:00 IIRC, Webmin can do certain monitoring things, it may be of help :) Chilling_Silence (9)
