389402 2005-09-19 08:24:00 Xtra, for example, offer two 2Mb/s adsl plans with max bandwidth of 10gigs per month. Both for $70 per month.

Plan 1 downgrades the speed after the 10gigs has been reached, with no further charges.

Plan 2 charges 2c per MB after the 10gigs has been reached.

Can anyone comment on the overall performance of these two, given that I'd never go over the 10gig bandwidth. I kinda doubt there'd be any difference, but maybe...?

389403 2005-09-19 08:43:00 There shouldn't be any difference if you don't go over the cap, but I would recommend going for the option where they slow you down. bob05 (8721)
389404 2005-09-19 08:59:00 I wonder when the prices will come down to the logical rate... Agent_24 (57)
389405 2005-09-19 09:23:00 Have you considered ORCON (www.orcon.net.nz) at all?

Advert I have just read tonight
2Mbps 1GB with Orcon tolls $39.95 monthly, $49.95 without Orcon tolls

Now here's the appealing bit $10 for each additional 10GB or part thereof used during the month, with email alerts to update on your current usage.

Therefore doing the sums for you that equals $49.95 with tolls or $59.95 which has to be better than what Telecom is offering and no chance of having your line speed capped.

Reading the small print, free install and modem offer expire 20 October 2005, 12 month minimum contract, $150 early diconnection fee, $9.95 postage & handling charge applies to the free modem. Yada Yada Yada

389406 2005-09-19 12:52:00 I do about 60GB a month on iHugs flat-rate 256kbps plan that has been discontinued

2mbit would be nice, but not feasible :p

Orcons plans do look appealing thou

389407 2005-09-20 07:27:00 I think you would find http://inspire.net.nz being well priced in this range, but I'm uncertain about the traffic limit and whether they have one that suits you, I was considering them when looking at 2mbps, but haven't gotten round to it as I wanted to make sure their transfer to another ISP wasn't going to cost me the same as getting my line reconnect, which I've just noticed they've dropped the costs.

I'm wondering if TelstraClear is good, mean, I'm not sure how many customers TelstraClear has compared to Telecom, but it might be better service wise due to that fact. That's if you're willing to switch your phone account though (would that benefit in the long run?).

Cheers,

KK
