| 389799 | 2005-09-21 21:55:00 | Do you figit with your machine all the time or something? You mean to say that you don't? You're not a proper geek if you don't fidget with your machine, break it and then fix it again. :nerd: <Goes off to start the third reinstall this week :waughh:> |

What's the point in breaking it if you already know how to fix it? The adventure is in the challenge of treading unknown territory |

So you're not supposed to fidget unless you know how to fix things? Tell me then, how do geeks learn to fix things in the first place if they don't first fidget and break things?? Sheesh! |

| 389803 | 2005-09-21 23:16:00 | I can tell from your post you have never worked in an IT department lol. A good Tecky/geek does experiment in there early days (we agree there) and thats how they learn BUT the point is to solve it yourself, NOT post constant questions in forums to get other poeple to solve the problems for you (huge fundermental difference) There is not always someone around to hold your hand. If you cause 100 problems to solve with tinkering , and only solve 2 problems yourself, then I definately suggest STOP TINKERING!!! Think about it  |

| 389804 | 2005-09-21 23:32:00 | "You're not a proper geek if you don't fidget with your machine, break it and then fix it again . " And then figit some more and break it again . . and again . . and again . Why do WE always try to fix things that aren't broken? I assume I'm not the only one . |

I actually agree with that point BUT, you do seem to seek excessive amounts of help, on the other hand I admit it keeps the forum interesting . A true geek enjoys solving the problems themselves, I am not sure ANYONE can argue this point? . . . . . . . . anyone? A experienced Tecky does not generally seek problems as we run into them on a day to day basis in our jobs, however still do a bit of tinkering as no one knows everying in IT (that's for sure) . Anyway you seem like a nice guy, I shouldn't have had a dig at you earlier in the thread . My later responses are meant as a responce to a philosophical discussion that had formed, rather than any further discussion about you . |
