389732 2005-09-20 16:55:00 I am new to all this DVD burning...because I just got a DVD Burner. I am trying to upload my personal DVD's using Power Producer 2 Gold but when I am complete, the only way they will let me save them is with a .ppp extension. How can I get them into WMA or M-Peg so I can upload them to my hard drive to send to my friends and family?
Thank you in advance....patricia

389733 2005-09-20 19:58:00 Can't say I've used Power Producer. I wouldn't know, whether it has an option to save as MPEG or WMA. What's the source??

How, or what are you using to import the video into Power Producer?? A file? From a video / digital video camera?

What version of Windows are u using Pat??

If XP, you could try Moviemaker, which is part of XP, or Nerovision, now called Nero Digital...

389734 2005-09-21 10:01:00 I'm presuming you got Power Producer with your DVD writer. You can get the manual here - www.gocyberlink.com
Power Producer is just for making DVDs and VCDs. If you want to save the video in a different format you'll have to use something else.
AVS media converter might do the trick for you. You can download a trial version at www.avsmedia.com

389735 2005-09-21 16:01:00 Hey Speedy . . . . I originaly recorded via my mini digital camcorder, then I uploaded it into my Sony Digital Video recorder via a firewire . . . . as I do not have a firewire port in my computer . I then burned that onto a DVD . I then use the DVD in my computer . . . and it plays wonderfully . But . . . . . . I cannot seem to upload the file off the DVD .

Thanks for your help .

389736 2005-09-21 21:16:00 If you do have a digital video cam with a firewire port on it, I would get a firewire PCI card like this .

. dse . co . nz/cgi-bin/dse . storefront/4331be7d08a00f1c2740c0a87f9906ef/Product/View/XH8270" target="_blank">www . dse . co . nz

Or something cheaper with just the firewire ports, if u have USB 2 already .

It'll make things a lot easier . What version of Windows is installed??

389738 2006-01-05 08:05:00 I'm not sure if it is the same but I have been using Power Producer 3 for about a week now, and have found a way to do what you want I think - however, I am not sure if it is the same for PP2 or not.

I will explain the steps as I see it from my version - see if yours is similar:

When the program starts, I get five options:
Produce Movie Disc
Right-To-Disc
Edit Disc
Open Project
Disc Utilities

Choose Produce Movie Disc.
Then Pick DVD, 4.7 or 8.5 Gb

Then I get a menu on the left side of the screen that has
Import
Video Files
Photos
Scene on DVD
Capture
Video

Edit
Video Clips
Photo Slide Show
Menu
Chapters

and on the right, a window previewing the content.

Is this the same as yours?

If it is, click on Scene on DVD, and put your DVD in the drive.
Make sure the correct drive is selected, and you should get a list of the available chapters or scenes on the DVD.

Select the ones you want. Just below the list of scenes is a button with a disc and an arrow pointing right coming out of it. When you press this, the scenes are ripped to standard mpeg (.mpg) files and are stored to your hard drive.

To find out where they have been saved, go back into the main program window, with the preview screen and go into the preferences menu (on mine has an icon like a screwdriver and hammer). Look for an option that says working directory.

This is where you movies have been saved. They will have odd names, but they will be the right files. They are called something like "0101_19212200.mpg"
where 0101_ is the date (1st Jan) and 192122 is the time that the file was recorded. Feel free to rename these as you want to. You may need to close PowerProducer first, but don't worry, these files won't be removed until you delete them yourself.

If the files are too big to send, try going beck into PP2, and into the preferences. I think there is an option there to reduce the quality of the video ripping process. You will need to rip them again after making this change - don't forget to delete your other files or you might run out of disk space.

Hope this helps.
Craig.

I can't say for sure, but sometimes changing the file type to something else is all you have to do; like ' . ppp to . mpeg' .

It won't alter the file, just give it a familiar face to your software, hopefully . :)

Ps You can always change it back if it doesn't work .
