Components age relative to temperature (particularly capacitors) so it will not do it any favours to be continually hot. I have cleaned my LCD screens for years with a 3M product which is basically water, vinegar and Isopropyl Alcohol. Google will give you more of the same, the alcohol isnt really essential but I would use white vinegar and not malt vinegar with water. Recipies I have seen suggest 25% to 50% vinegar mix. The only critical thing with it is that the cloth should be soft, lint-free and barely moist. If any liquid runs down the screen into the LCD frame, its probably going to be terminal for the electronics. I only need to clean my LCD screens (and I have 6 in total) once or twice a year at most. Just keep fingers off them. DSE sell special impregnated wipes (Cat N3122) which are a "dry method" by the look of it. Removes a lot of the hassles. |

Also, to prevent it over-heating, raise the back of the laptop off the desk by either using the feet provided (if any) or by propping something under the 2 rear corners - this will give an airflow to the underside of the laptop. Another screen cleaning option is ammonia-based window cleaner - this normally works fine on Toshiba laptop screens but as GF said, use a clean lint free cloth and look with your eyes not your fingers! A Eeek! Never use ammonia based cleaners on laptop screens. The plastic screen face will become yellowed and brittle over time if you do so. Its not glass. |
