| 389952 | 2005-09-21 23:12:00 | Hiya, I've done a small amount of searching through the forums to try and discover the answer to my question but I can't seem to get a answer . I'm currently looking to create a website and I want a domain name to go with it . I just want to use my website to have a few pages about me and for file storage . I have found a plan with Clever Internet (www . cleverinternet . co . nz) which looks really good and in the total price you pay it even includes a domain name . Does anyone else know anything about them? Does anyone know of any better plans? They claim to have an uptime of 99 . 97% which is excellent but I wanted to know if anyone has dealt with them before . Any suggestions, ideas, experiences? I did find a even better plan except the company was overseas and thought that the exchange rate might not always be so good . But if people could post their experiences, ideas and all that it would be awesome! Rock On! Brendo |

I aren't fussed where it is based just as long as the price I'm looking at is in NZ dollars... Anyway thanks for the suggestions. Any others would be appreciated. |

| 389957 | 2005-09-22 05:30:00 | Unix or Windows hosting? What' s better? What will you be doing with your site?? Both will do most thing just fine. If it were my pick I would go for the linux server. | Rob99 (151) | ||

Hardly anything fancy .. if I'm to do that it will come much later once I've learnt everything but at this point it definitely would not be fancy. |

| 389959 | 2005-09-22 05:52:00 | How much space do you think you will need, some ISP's will give you 10Mb with your account. Most small websites are way way less than 10Mb. | Rob99 (151) | ||
| 389960 | 2005-09-22 06:07:00 | I aren't too sure how much space. I do want to store stuff like things I've recorded off TV on there so I could share it with friends etc. My limit per year would be around the $100 mark. A bit more or a bit less (for web hosting). | ImTheRealBrendo (8940) | ||
| 389961 | 2005-09-22 07:13:00 | As far as I know the cheapest .nz domains would be found at 2day.co.nz for the first year, after that I would transfer the domain to another registrar so that the renewal fews are lower. Probably http: although, I haven't kept in touch with renewal prices and transferring domains should be FREE. As for hosting, I think you wouldn't go wrong with shothost.com which the support is NZ based while the servers are US (it's cheaper this way). It's very cheap, and very reliable. If you're looking for a .com domain name then http://CleverDot.com is the cheapest I've come across, although I guess it does depend on how strong our dollar is against US. I would personally go for a Linux/Unix host, unless you planned on using ASP then it would be Windows IIS. Cheers, KK |
