389991 2007-10-01 02:03:00 The old ones must have?? The new ones sure don't, which is really stupid. Any budget mp3 player these days can have a FM tuner built in. Why, Apple, why?:waughh: wratterus (105)

Because they want to make more money by selling the seperate tuner/headphones.

I think the next ipod classic may have a built in tuner, as it will be one of the only ways to enharnce it further before it reaches the end of it's life, and would make it different from the nano, which now has all the same features.

Keep it simple, functional and aesthetically pleasing with minimum features while allowing for thousands of 3rd party add ons.

I have a feeling that the iPod Classic will get the EOL treatment in due course and be replaced with another version of the iPod Touch rather than have FM capabilities added since Apple doesn't like to hang onto "old" stuff just for the sake of it.

It still amazes me why anyone would choose an iPod over a normal mp3 player, others are cheaper and better. Especially the Creative ones. And you don't need iTunes to use them! iCrap.

/rant over.

The analysts are forecasting sales of 10.6 million iPod units for this holiday quarter, so there are still a lot of people who like the iPod and its features enough to buy them.

Let me tell you then .

There are consumers, and I'm a classic example, that when purchasing a product that takes them out of their comfort/knowledge zone, will stick with a well-known brand name on the basis that if they've been around that long, or have sold that many units, then they can't be too bad .

Examples?

PlayStation over Xbox .
Toyota over Hyundai
Xtra over Xnet
Tui over Tuatara
Fisher & Paykel over Samsung
Darryl Hannah over Carmen Electra :p

I don't claim that Hyundai or Carmen are worse than the first choice, it's just what one feels comfortable with .

Oh, and iPod is the only MP3 player compatible with my new stereo in the car :D

iPods are actually OEM for most of the major car manufactures as well as many of the top European models, plus as many hardware manufactures are finding out, simplicity and ease of use counts for a lot with the majority of customers over the age of 35.

People over the age of 35 are not "digital natives" like the 15-25 age bracket.

389998 2007-10-01 04:17:00 The sheep think iPod means MP3 player.

Just like people from the cassette generation think a portable tape player is called a walkman, when that was just the brandname Sony used.

Sony were in much the same position as Apple are in. Ease of use, quality of item, and the rest of that dribble doesn't come into it, The name iPod is in widespread use to describe an mp3 player.
