390347 2005-09-23 11:13:00 Hi all,

Just wondering how I go about finding out what speed I can by RAM for on my laptop? I am currently running 2x 512MB SODIMM chips @ 266MHz, but don't know how fast I can go up to (i.e. will my laptop be able to take 333 MHz, or 400MHz etc.).

Any help would be vastly appreciated!

Craig. :D

390348 2005-09-23 20:28:00 I would find out what the brand / model of the laptop is first.

Then go to the manufacturer's site, and look up the model #. It would/should give you more info on what it supports.

It looks like u can get 333 and 400 mhz sodimm tho for some laptops.

BUT that would depend on whether your lapptop can handle 333 or 400 mhz.

390349 2005-09-23 22:06:00 There is no point in putting in RAM that is CAPABLE of being clocked faster if your memory bus remains at 266MHz. linw (53)

well actually there is. higher speed ram can run faster memory settings at the slower speed. (eg cas 2.5 333 @266 compared to cas 3 266 @266) often you can buy higher speed ram cheaper than the high end lower speed. (ie cas2.5 333 @266 is cheaper than buying cas 2.5 266)
