390317 2005-09-23 22:10:00 In case it hasn't been already said. First of all the filter is there to filter out phone noise which can interfare with ADSL. My setup is like this. Single phone jack on other side of room, into that I have a double adapter one for phone and one for ADSL. In one socket of double adapter I have filter into which is plugged phone, and into the other socket on double adapter I have ADSL plugged into, via a 7M lead which is tacked to skirting board and also goes up and over a door frame to my router.

390318 2005-09-23 22:19:00 When we got adsl, I just wired up another phone jack (3-wire slave), in the room which became designated as the computer room.
That way it was baby-proofed, and we didn't have one of the long crappy extension cords getting under our feet.

Before I did that, I didnt have a clue as to how to wire them, but ring around, ask some phone cable suppliers (not Telecom - they will want to wire it themselves, at a cost) and they will be quite happy to give advice (usually). Cost me $5 for the cable and the jack on top of that.
Warehouse have 2-wire kits for approx $20.
You first need to find out if you have a 2-wire or 3-wire system (3-wire system... the main jack will have M for master on it, others will have S for slave; 2-wire is the current standard).

Just another option to consider.

(incidentally- we had issues with the phone line after that, Telecom sent a tech around to check our wiring.. perfect he said, the fault was diagnosed back at the exchange.. and Im no phone-line tech, so its not that hard)
