390609 2005-09-25 00:19:00 Hi all, i can't get my browsers to display pictures on some websites while some other web sites seem to have no problem with the pictures showing up. Its mainly an box where the pictures/icons should be with a red X mark.

I thought it was the websites at first but using other computers, they show up fine so now im at a loss of what i should do.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Your firewall could also be causing the problem.

390612 2005-09-25 22:17:00 I searched for this answer, hopefully this works for this person . I have had this in my personal notepad for a while, but mis-filed it and had a bad time finding it (forgot I have Google Destop Search! DUH) The format may be out of whack a little, I copy/pasted it from my Notepad, and it's a different format without wordwrap initially .

RED 'X' PROBLEMS :stare:

If you are getting the "RED-X" on what you know should be pictures on web
sites or your e-mail, you might be blocking them .

Check it this way: click Tools>>Options .

Select the Security tab . Uncheck the box next to "Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus . "

This obviously raises the risks of viruses, so be sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date .

Now, clear the box next to "Block images and other external content in HTML
e-mail . " You should now be able to see pictures sent as part of the e-mail .
You'll also see gross pictures in spam . That's the risk in Windows!

Additionally, ask the people who are sending you pictures to check their
settings . To do that, click Tools>>Options . On the Send tab, HTML Settings
should be clicked . Select "Send pictures with messages . "

If however, you receive an e-mail with a link to a picture on the Internet, you
won't be able to see it if the link is bad; the server maintaining that Web page could be down . If the picture is on an advertising site that has been blocked by a custom HOSTS file, you will not see it and that's a good thing anyway .

Finally, if you just cannot solve the picture problem, change e-mail programs .

There are a number of free ones, including GMail, Eudora, Netscape and
Thunderbird .

Hope this helps, although very late for a reply . . . I was fishing in Arizona for a while .
