390341 2005-09-23 10:45:00 Win XP Home/512MB Ram. NEC 3520A Burner/Dvd cloner II Burning S/W.Re-formatted and re-installed Windows just 2 months ago.

Since I changed burner from a USB model to an internal one I found that I had to exit software programme then bring it back before Disc would burn again properly-it would go really slow then hang. Now since re-installing Windows It has got worse! I have to re-boot PC before it is rectified! I also have a problem(maybe related) with Canon Lide 20 USB Scanner that packs in ever 30-50 scans and I have to unplug then re-plug it after re-booting. This was a problem before re-installing. Advice sought. Pete

390342 2005-09-23 20:01:00 I would check, whether any IDE devices are in PIO Mode, or DMA Mode .

This would slow things down a bit .

Are you running any cd's / burners etc on the same IDE connection as a hard drive??

Go to device manager / ide ata / atapi controllers / primary and secondary ide channel entries / advanced settings tab .

What does it say beside current transfer mode? Utlra DMA mode xx, or PIO Mode?

390343 2005-09-24 13:25:00 Primary is: Dev O Ultra DMA Mode 6
" 1 Not applicable

Secondaryis: Dev 0 Ultra DMA Mode 2
" 1 " " " 2

Transfer Mode for both is DMA if available

390344 2005-09-24 20:18:00 I would try another program, or see if there's an issue with Dvd cloner II and see if there's a patch that fixes it.

I cant say I've had to reboot during burning sessions.

390345 2005-09-25 08:32:00 I found after your suggestion, that the drive was connected to HD: I fixed cables and after a short trial, just burning 2 discs in succession to desktop and not to another DVD, it worked smoothly! Thanks Speedy. Pete dinerouk (4690)
390346 2005-09-25 08:43:00 Good to hear its running properly!

Yup, its not a good idea to have a burner/cd/dvd and a hdd on the same IDE connection . You will have problems . Due to different speeds .

Its better to have 2 hdds or 2 cd's/dvd's/burners on the same IDE connection .

And having 80 wire IDE cables (these have blue connectors on the motherboard end) helps as well .

I found this out, when I put an 80 wire IDE cable, on these dvd burners . (Which are on secondary IDE as Masters) .

They went from DMA 2 to DMA 4!
