2014-07-03 12:39:00 | During May Telecom introduced a charge of $1.50 for the privilege of a customer having a paper bill sent to him/her. Should they be allowed to do this? This is an extra charge that is made to cover the costs of processing the paper bills. Some Power Companies offer incentives rather than add another cost to the bill. Watch video here (www.3news.co.nz).

2014-07-03 20:27:00 | That's why I get mine by email. From TC / VF. Might do the same thing with the power. You save 22% or something according to the site. I no longer get statements by mail from ANZ. I'll just go to the ANZ site, log in and look what I've got left | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2014-07-03 21:40:00 | IIRC ASB does the same - why should it be a problem?Because the people that require paper bills are probably the one that can least afford to be charged for it. | plod (107) | |
2014-07-03 22:04:00 | Have told a few people that TC would be charging for paper bills when it came in,everyone did not know about it either though it was stuck at the bottom of their account in the lead up period Also when printing out the account for your records the second page can be deleted as it's all advertising (in my case anyway)

2014-07-03 22:48:00 | I agree, that $1.50 has bankrupted me. Its an outrage. How will I afford my daily morning & afternoon $4 coffees . We should be able to dictate to companies on what they can charge us , just as I tell my mechanic Im not paying for the oil he puts in my car after an oil change. There are zero other ph & internet providers in NZ so we have absolutely no option in the matter....oh .. wait..um

2014-07-03 23:19:00 | The OP needs to do a search on Geekzone and look at all the threads like this. Just change the name to Telecom, TelstraClear, Vodafone etc.. | paulw (1826) | |
2014-07-03 23:19:00 | I think I was told by TC to use email notifications. This included when mobile and landline broadband usage notifications which is helpful. Probably trying to save trees or something. But one good thing I suppose...they rang me about 8 months back that I was better off on my current mobile plan. Then rang recently that I'll be now better off upgrading, since my increase in calls and text to Vodafone.

2014-07-04 00:48:00 | They can do it now and get away with it - with the internet age. Imagine the uproar if they did this 20yrs ago. Imagine if they put up a wholesale credit card convenience fee for all customers today. I mean the city council (Wellington) does this at a rate they don't profit from it and I think Genesis Energy has just did it but only at a 0.7% which is discounted still. They are giving you less - they save the paper and postal cost and you don't get a discount. If you want it you are charged for it. At least banks still have a free account without statements. They don't charge you $5 for a online account then bill you $1.50 for each statement. From an accounting view, it is a way to profit from it if they don't make the move. If people are relying on less online services, they might be hogging up the call centre lines too ... and that is a cost to the business. I know Telecom cannot do it but other companies don't offer landlines only now and some do not offer internet only and have their landline still with Telecom. It is Internet + landline or nothing. Less profitable for the business. Indirect woo out your less profitable customers and replace that with more lower cost more profitable ones. Speedy I think you get a 22% online discount with Contact Energy - compare the unit and daily rate fees. I found that Contact with the 22% off, is inline with Geneis's 10% off. Also I think the 22% off Contact you don't get statements cos it is "online" so if you didn't set up auto payment and you miss one they take get 22% more :D Contact does provide a 10% off if you don't do the online thingy but it cost way more.

You're asked to hang up and recall on a landline. The thing with customer service for me with this electronic age - if you call the call centre and you are queued why does a secure email take 24 or 48hr for a reply :annoyed: |
