1391200	2014-12-29 23:36:00	Hi all, Seasons Greetings! OK, so I'm staying at my parents place over the Xmas break. Theres a few quirks I've noticed with their internet, which I can't figure out how to fix, hoping for some advice here on how to troubleshoot... The symptoms are, the PC's (and devices) that connect via wireless, seem to have regular time-outs. I've noticed that anything that uses Google.com times out, but if it's changed to Google.co.nz it seems to work fine. Also my phone, while on the wireless connetion, regularly times out when downloading from the Google Play store. Yet, Gmail seems OK. Some other sites such as Facebook can also have problems - while many other websites work fine, such as CNN, NZ Herald, Trade Me, etc. The one PC that connects directly via cabled internet, doesn't seem to have this problem. I'm sure the problem is not with the device, because my laptop and phone when I am home, don;t have this problem, it's only on the wifi network here. The routers they use are quite old (And I'm a bit confused with how it's set up, I'll explain in a moment), but because this happens on the wifi I beleive it's a configuration problem somewhere, rather than a hardware fault. Their set-up is: ISP is Xnet / WorldExchange via ADSL - Phone line has a filter on it, and the ADSL (phone-type plug line) inputs to a ADSL2+ modem, model D-Link DSL-504T - The DSL-504T has 4 'LAN' outputs: - One goes, via cable under the house, to their TV - seems to work fine. - One goes, via cable, to my Dad's old PC - also seems to work fine. - One has a cable plugged in as a spare, but has nothing plugged in the other end - One has a cable, plugged into a 'LAN' port of wireless router - Model D-Link DIR-615 The DIR-615 has a 'internet' input, nothing is plugged into it. It has four 'LAN' ports, the only one used is the connection from the DSL=504T to it. Has this been set up correctly? I would have thought the input to the DIR-615 should use the 'internet' port, but it doesn't work if the LAN port is used. If the physical connections are correct, any ideas where I should go to troubleshoot the connection problems? My only theory is thay somehow if there are two different Google or Facebook accounts sharing traffic over this network, that somehow causes a conflict somewhere, but I have no idea if this is even a plausible theory or not! 1391201	2014-12-30 00:00:00	You would have to disable dhcp on one of them, wouldnt you? Since the 504T is a modem only, the other is a wireless router (if you want to use wireless) Probably easier if you get an all in one modem/wireless router. It'd be easier to set up	Speedy Gonzales (78)
1391202	2014-12-30 00:13:00	Hi Speedy, yes I agree, but this is the set-up they currently have (they were given the ADSL Modem when they first got broadband and added the wireless years later). If I can change the config on this setup so it works better, that's my first preference rather than buying a new modem/router. Which one should I disable DHCP on?? TO be honest I'm a bit confused with how the two are interacting with each other...	Chikara (5139)

The 615 being a router is actually working as a switch / Access Point. Thats why one of the 4 ports on the 615 is being used and Not the WAN port. The DHCP should be disabled on the 615. I've now left again after my Xmas holidays visiting them, so I have no more chance to fix it. I think I might go for Plan B, and suggest they get a 2 in 1 modem-router rather than try to continue trouble-shoot the different settings between two different units. Thanks anyway for all the help.
