1391181 2014-12-29 19:01:00 Earlier this year my daughter purchased for me a hp laptop fitted with windows 8.
I am at present on rural dial up (31.2Kbps). I also purchased a usb modem from Trademe to get the laptop connected to the net. The laptop does not seem to want to recognise the usb modem. I have the driver software for the modem but it still will not recognise the modem. Can anyone help?
TIA

Spooky

What is the make/model of the modem?

1391183 2014-12-30 06:07:00 There is nothing to describe the modem on the modem itself. Over the New Year break I will hunt down the driver cd that came with the modem and put those details up here. spooky (4241)
1391184 2014-12-30 17:07:00 I found the driver cd and on it there are 6 or 7 folders. The only one that was accessed by the laptop when the modem was installed was a folder named CX_D400. That is the only model information I have for this modem. I hope this helps. And yes the modem worked on a desktop pc I had at the time. That also accessed the same folder during the install. spooky (4241)
1391185 2014-12-30 17:47:00 Hey Spook... where are you located? And who is the Service Provider for the stick - eg Spark, 2DG etc? Greg (193)
1391186 2014-12-30 19:52:00 Could be a Dell Conexant D400 USB modem. Is it 32 or 64 bit Windows 8? The drivers you have, may not work if theyre not Windows 7 or 8 drivers

If it is a Dell Conexant D400 these may work for Win8 even tho theyre for Windows 7. 32 bit (www.dell.com) 64 bit (www.dell.com)

One way to find out, plug it in go to device manager, double click on its entry go to details tab change it to hardware ID's copy and paste one or more of the lines in here or in Google

1391187 2015-01-06 08:10:00 Greg, sorry for the delay. I am in Dannevirke and my ISP is Clear (Vodafone). I (or my wife) come through to Napier quite regularly so we might be able to sort this out face to face. spooky (4241)
1391188 2015-01-07 07:41:00 Speedy. I installed the modem into my current xp home machine. The os found the modem and installed and it worked. Please find attached a word document showung a screenshot of the modems hardware id. Please contact me if you need more info.
