1391067 2014-12-28 06:41:00 Intel has given me a list of instructions but after deleting the requested drivers I can't install the ones I have downloaded because Windows does it automatically when I reboot . When I try to "update" the drivers, Windows says I already have the latest drivers and won't let me put in the earlier ones . . .

So how do I force Windows to take on an early driver?

Hello Michael,

Please try the following steps:

1- Download wireless driver from here:

. intel . com/confirm . aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror . intel . com/24217/eng/Wireless_17 . 1 . 0_s64 . exe&Lang=eng&Dwnldid=24217" target="_blank">downloadcenter . intel . com

2- Download graphics driver from here:

. intel . com/confirm . aspx?httpDown=http://downloadmirror . intel . com/24329/a08/win64_153330 . exe&Lang=eng&Dwnldid=24329" target="_blank">downloadcenter . intel . com

3- Download WiDi software from here: . intel . com/Detail_Desc . aspx?DwnldID=23861" target="_blank">downloadcenter . intel . com

4- Once you have downloaded the files, please go to Device Manager and look up for Network adapters and expand it, now look up for Intel Centrino Wireless N 2230 and right-click it .

5- Choose “Uninstall” and check the box next to: “Delete the driver software for this device” .

6- Go to Control Panel - Programs and Features and if still present, uninstall Intel PROSet Wireless software .

7- After process is complete, please restart your computer and install wireless driver .

8- When installing the driver, please choose custom and choose the enterprise version .

9- Once the installation finishes, remove WiDi software from programs and features and install it the downloaded driver .

10- Go to Device Manager and look up for Display Adapters section and expand it, look for Intel HD Graphics 4000 right click it and choose "Uninstall", also check the box next to: “Delete the driver software for this device” .

11- Your screen may go black, if it does, please restart your computer and install the downloaded graphics driver .

12- Try to use WiDi and test . If issue persists, please try to disable Firewall and Antivirus and try again .

If by disabling firewall and antivirus it works, please follow these steps to enable the Wireless PAN service:

a- Press Windows key + R and type services . msc .

b- Look at the list of services on the right hand side panel and scroll down until you find Wireless PAN DHCP Server .

c- Highlight it and start it if status is not running .

d- To allow it, go Windows Firewall in Control Panel and verify that Wireless PAN DHCP Server shows on the allow list

e- If not, please add it by clicking allow another program and selecting the Wireless PAN DHCP Server .

f- Additionally, check that Intel Wireless Display is not being blocked by antivirus or VPN/firewall .

Please let us know the results .

Best regards,

Sophia

1391068 2014-12-28 08:57:00 Try this -- Go into the control Panel / Windows updates / Top left, change settings - From the drop down box in the middle of the page you can select different options. Further down the page, untick the two other options ( Recommended and Microsoft)--( this is for W8.1 but earlier will be similar)

Remove the drivers completely as per Intels instructions, you should then be able to install the others you have.

Note: make sure you actually uninstall completely as per #5 on your list "Delete the driver software for this device"

1391069 2014-12-29 19:53:00 Thank you Wainui - I tried that but it had no effect

So I contacted Intel and they said the files they were referring to as "drivers" were actually "driver installation software". That means installing by double-click rather than by Device Manager...

Anyway I followed their procedure and everything installed OK. But the problem remains - Widi picture freezes after 10 seconds

Annoyingly, the drivers they got me to install are the latest ones which I already had, whereas I requested assistance in installing EARLIER drivers that worked.

It seems that when a new Intel person takes over the problem they go back to square one. Thankfully they don't go right back to "have you tried rebooting"...

1391070 2014-12-29 20:18:00 Have you tried a different widi receiver?

Maybe the problem is at the other end

1391071 2014-12-29 21:45:00 I have 2 receivers both PTV3000. One is current firmware, the other is about a year out of date. They both show the same problem (on different TV sets).

Intel seem to think the problem is the Wifi (direct) transmission stopping. They got me to instal some logging software on my computer and I emailed some files to them
