390852 2005-09-25 23:32:00 Hi all

a couple of weeks ago I discovered that media player would name my tracks when I ripped them from my cds (yes I am a bit slow),

Now the problem i am having is that some of my albums aren't getting the correct track listings, often there is an extra track in the middle of the album which throws the naming out, or the track order is slightly different, don't get me wrong it appears to be the correct album, but just a different release of the album, a good portion of my collection is fom the UK from my OE days but it even seems to happen with the odd NZ album

I don't mind naming albums myself but this seems like such a cool feature to which I was completely oblivious

Cheers

390853 2005-09-26 04:03:00 What program are you using for ripping your CD's? You might be able to select a different CDDB (CD database) directory which has more up to date or correct entries. Jen (38)
390854 2005-09-26 04:14:00 It looks more as if he needs "more out of date" listings, Jen. I think a lot of these listings are entered by volunteers. So they aren't necessaraliy guaranteed to be correct. ;) I showed a friend how this worked, but the only listing for his CD was in Japanese. Graham L (2)

That might be a bit trickier. Maybe there is a CDDB which specialises in some of the more older songs? But as Graham mentions, you can still get incorrect entries (including spelling mistakes) as the listings are created by the community users.

Are there different cd databases out there?

sorry but it was all a startling revelation to me

yes most of them are 97 - 99 so well yeah it might be a bit difficult, It's just i know there were different track listings for different countries for some albums (don't ask we which) as my flatmate and I compared the same CDs bought in the US and UK and there were often differences between them

390857 2005-09-26 06:43:00 Um....It was my understanding that the disks are identified by the length of and number of silence's on the cd (yeah, sounds far fetched, but someone claimed this awhile back and then backed it up with links to the info...so...meh), so you shouldn't be getting results with different song selections. The years 97-99 aren't exactly old hat, Ive done much older........62-2005, granted anything older then 15 years is a re-release and could have been pressed at any time.

I would hit it with Cdex and see if the results are any better, Wouldn't trust MS Media Player if it was wearing a blue hat and selling girl guide biscuts.
