391354 2005-09-27 06:10:00 Is this a common ptoblem with laptops? The pointer often just disappears off the screen and I just about wear my finger out on the touch pad trying to get it back. I'm with XP and have slowed the pointer down and have enabled "Snap to" and I certainly have more control over it now but it is still vanishing now and again. Most frusrtrating. I 've never had this problem with my desk top.that's why I'm wondering if it's a failing with lap tops. willbry (1555)
391355 2005-09-27 06:59:00 Laptops usually have dual video adapters (for an external screen).

If the dual adapter is enabled and it "thinks" there is another screen active to the right or left of the laptop screen, the mouse could be wandering into that void, hence being invisible.

Disable the "phantom" screen if this is the case, under Display - Settings in control panel

391356 2005-09-27 07:05:00 Have a look under Display Properties > Settings and make sure you haven't selected "extend the desktop" or similar. Not quite sure which option it is, but losing one's mouse off the screen can be attributed to this as it moves onto a second "hidden" monitor.

Someone else might be able to clarify the instructions a bit further. :)

[Edit: and speak of the devil ... :D]

391357 2005-09-27 10:52:00 Thanks Jen & Godfather I think through your guidance I've got it solved. In Display Props > Settings there was a graphic of dual monitors with 2 options.Of the two, it was set at "Multipl>Monitors" so I have changed it to "Default Monitor" -so far so good. Strange that the laptop wasn't sold with the default setting that I've just changed it to.I wonder if other people have the same problem but just put up with it willbry (1555)

I would bet good money it was shipped with only one monitor enabled, Bear in mind that the 2nd display can be activated via the keyboard on many models, Usually by the alternate functions of the ....function keys, or some even have a designated button above the KB....
