392080 2005-09-30 00:26:00 I have just bought a 2nd hand dvd/cdrw combo drive with no software. I have no problems with the drive, it is listed and reads cd ok but wont read dvd, do I need software so that dvd's will play? nodrog (7115)
392081 2005-09-30 00:32:00 Yes, you will need software. PowerDVD and WinDVD are the two biggest ones, but fir a freebie solution you can try VLC (http://www.videolan.org/) Edward (31)
392082 2005-09-30 00:33:00 Yep, you do need some type of software so that dvd's can play.

I think Windows media player can play dvds, but I think that depends on what version of Windows media player & windows you have.

392084 2005-09-30 02:25:00 Windows Media Player requires a 3rd party decrypter, so AFAIK OOTB it cant. Chilling_Silence (9)
392085 2005-09-30 02:30:00 All you need is a codec, then just about any media player can do the job.

The required codec is found in many codec packs, including k-lite codec pack, just take note that if you do install a codec pack then uncheck everything apart from the ones you want.
