392176 2005-09-29 10:37:00 I have just installed windows 98 and i have started it for the first time after the hardward detction and the system settings thing and this message has come up

Windows protectino error. You need to restart your computer.

C:\WINDOWS\system\vmm32.vxd: Missing/unable to load.

I have had this message twice - when it showed the first time (this morning) i reinstalled that didnt help

Could that file be corrupt on my install cd?

392177 2005-09-29 10:55:00 A quick Google of "vmm32.vxd" produced a lot of results. Such as : support.microsoft.com

If you havn't already, check some of these out. Adding a few or you device manufacturer names might narrow it down a bit too.

392178 2005-09-29 19:59:00 download memtest86 and test your Ram. These error messages are somtimes caused by faulty RAM .

Another thing you may want to try is boot with a 98 Boot disk go to a command prompt cd "C:\WINDOWS\system" then do a
dir vmm32.vxd see if its there

if not copy that file from another 98 machine to that directory location
