392004 2005-09-29 07:51:00 I've not too much comment on the plan as I haven't used them, except it's hardly broadband but, if it floats your boat, why not.

Personally, I'd go with a Dynalink, Billion or Lynksys before I'd touch a DSE or Dlink router. Whats your connection like in your locality? If it's challenged, go for a better quality device.

I didn't notice NAT mentioned in the specs, only bridge mode. I guess soem of the other market droid speak amounts to much the same thing as NAT, but you'd want to confirm that is indeed the case (it has NAT) before purchasing that device.

392005 2005-09-29 08:24:00 I have a DSE router which I have had since the beginning of the year. Works great.

I'm with Actrix on there Cyberjet 256 Home plan. They do there capping after excessive use differant to other ISPs by giving you a daily limit which on this plan equates to 350mb a day or 10.5gb a month. Cost is $39-95 a month if you have toll calls through them ot $10 a month more if you don't. They don't care whether you make toll calls or not like some ISPs do.

Your choice of ISP is over to you and your plan is over to you as well.
Personally I bought a ADSL modem from Dick Smiths (D-Link DSL-302G) then dropped off my wireless broadband and signed up for Orcon 256K/128K. This costs me $49.95 per month. There was no capping or throttling or any extra bill. I ensured that in my plan with Orcon I had no nasty surprises at the end of the month. $49.95 and I can do what I want.

Being as I have no idea what you use the Internet for I can't give advise as to excess. You are the best person to figure out what you download.

OK. Some difficulty here. It rather depends on where you live and what plans are available.

I don't need to know where my downloads come from.

I used to when it came to Wave.

392009 2005-09-29 10:33:00 Orcon's latest plans are quite new so you might not get too many replies from people on that specific plan. I have their previous 256k Unlimited plan ($50 per month) and its been fair good over the last few months.

Some people (including myself) have had problems with Orcon's Bitstream service in the past but this seems to have been fixed now.

I personally wouldn't go for a DSE unit, mainly for reasons of support. Go for a more name branded model and you'll be able to find more people online who are familiar with it who can help. I have a Netgear DG834G

I have a great trust in DSE products, i have never had one fail me -- and i dont mean to contradict you but when i had slight problems the service was excellent

392011 2005-09-29 12:17:00 DSE support is 100%. When I got my router broadband was new to me and I new nothing about setting up ports. I emailed DSE support and had a reply within half an hour and this guy spent a couple of hours with me setting it up. He would send me an email with instruction and when I finished what he told me to do I would email him back and he would send me more instructions within 10 mins. This went on for about 2 hrs until I had it sorted.
