391939 2005-09-29 04:20:00 hi folks,

was wondering is there any way i could set something up to automatically disconnect then reconnect my d-link dsl 302g modem say every hour or whatever rather than going to its configuration gui and manually clicking the dis/connect button? im running windows xp (home).

cheers,

391940 2005-09-29 05:58:00 Hi & welcome to PressF1!

Just a quick question: why do you need to do this?

One of the main reasons for ADSL is it's always on!

391941 2005-09-29 07:05:00 hey and thanks for the welcome .

reason i want to do this . . . i recently changed isp from the highway robbery of xtras data caps to a supposed "unlimited" 256k flat-rate plan, boy was i (or)conned :( with their de-prioritising of p2p traffic it would be faster to snail mail packets around the world :p

anyways ive noticed if i have p2p client running in the bg after a certain amt of time it will come to a screech halt, sucky but whatcha gonna do? however the real b*tch is everything seems to be affected - messenger disconnects and web pages wont load without constant refreshing, etc . after much teeth grinding and expletives beeped out ive found if i dis/connect my modem my mediocer service resumes . . . for a while . . . :badpc:

so any suggestions?

(yes i am looking at changiing isp again, any thoughts about actrix? . actrix . co . nz/domestic/highspeed/cyberjet . php" target="_blank">www . actrix . co . nz)

391942 2005-09-30 01:37:00 Are you sure this only happen if you are using P2P software? CYaBro (73)
391943 2005-09-30 01:54:00 solution:P2P is old school, it is fully outdated and over rated, since you have a speedy connection use torrents  Prescott (11)
391944 2005-09-30 04:03:00 CYaBro: yeah pretty sure, dont seem to have any probs when not using my p2p client

Prescott: oops guess im not up (down) with the lingo, by p2p i do mean bittorrents, i use bitcomet 0.60 with PHE always on. hopefully lots of others will do this to get around sucky packet shaping :D

391945 2005-09-30 07:22:00 oh yip, i thought you were using kazaa etc.....

tried another client like Azureus?
Prescott (11)
391946 2005-09-30 22:39:00 ive tried several clients (bittorrent, burst!, bittornado) and theyre all fine, i just prefer bitcomet with all its customisable features esp. Packet Header Encryption in this latest version 0.60 hopefully when enough clients and peeps employ this feature it will nullify the packet shaping done by some ISPs... why cant we all just get along and share... my isp is such a meanie *sniff*... errr, um so how about those ABs eh ;)

so in the meantime does anyone know how i could set something up to automatically disconnect then reconnect my modem say every hour or whatever rather than going to its configuration gui and manually clicking the dis/connect button?

cheers
