Neither of them actually go 1st PC: all hardware inside turns on (you can hear the HDD churning) but nothing happens no beep, no image on screen and the fan seems really quiet. Its HP Brio VIA board (cant remeber usually use Everest but pc not working 2nd PC: power button doesnt work motherboard unknown. If i can fix at least one ot these i can a merge the 2 hdd 2gether. any ideas? the power supply on the 1st pc is different to any that i currently own and as i ama high school student my budget is very very low. |

2005-09-28 09:36:00 | The power button on the 2nd PC, maybe stuck. Or sticking. This does happen on some cases. You could try opening the case, if u can, and short the two wires going from the button / front of the case for the power with a screwdriver. If something happens, or it boots up, all u have to do is replace the case. Or if u have transport, u could bring them here. I could have a look at them. (Mt Eden).

2005-09-28 10:53:00 | I once had a non-working main power switch problem which was easily fixed. The switch was held in position by about 3 springy plastic latches and the button had apparently been pushed too hard at some stage and the switch had become unhooked from the latches and moved backwards a bit. The result was that the switch button mounted in the case was bottoming out before the switch mechanism had been depressed sufficiently to 'throw' the switch mechanism. A longish shot, perhaps, but it might be worth dismounting the switch and operating the mechanism by hand to test it. HTH

2005-09-28 11:09:00 | basically all that is wong is that ill push the button and npthng will happen. i had it working fine at 5pm but then it failed 2 find Hdd so i undid case added some spare hdd (2) and a network card, push the button and nothing. to get the button will mean several hours of undoin brackets and god knows wat! its a computcon (not sure how 2 spelt it) all the wires 2 it r hidden behind a metal plate thing i think. this is wat happens when i attept something with no pro knowledge

2005-09-28 20:16:00 | Remember antistatic practices have you checked that it is not a video card or monitor problem on the one that powers up swap monitors if possible take the vid' card from the one to the other, Check that ram is seated correctly this also applies to any add in cards does the fan spin on the power supply (sometimes this indicates a faulty power supply (this only indicator and may not be true for your power supply) One thing I would add donot open the power supply case unless you are certified to do so. This is different from the pc case.

2005-09-28 21:02:00 | Are we talking about an AT or ATX power supply/mobo? If ATX, have you checked the switch connection to the mobo, You may have accidentally knocked it when you were inside the computer. | Myth (110) | |

2005-09-29 02:33:00 | i had it working fine at 5pm but then it failed 2 find Hdd so i undid case added some spare hdd (2) and a network card, this is wat happens when i attept something with no pro knowledge SO you had the HDD die on you. Or the IDE slot on the motherboard. You should have checked the HDD on another working PC to see it it was the problem. Putting another HDD in which now doesn't work also would possibly indicate the motherboard at fault. Or even the PSU - take the drives out, in fact everything except what is needed to boot: CPU, 1 piece of rma, graphics card if it hasn't got onboard. Then boot. If sitll nothing, test the PSU. And the ram. Process of elimination. No likley to be power button, but you can disconnect it from the motherboard and start the PC by touching those 2 pins together with a screwdriver. Make sure its only those particular pins though.
