| 391429 | 2005-09-28 01:28:00 | I have recently downloaded and installed SP2 from Windows Update site and when I had it installed my internet would not work. When I looked at the internet connection it said everything was fine and that I was connected but I could not access Internet Explorer or MSN messenger. So I decided to uninstall SP2 and everything was working fine. Was hoping that somebody could tell me of a way of having both these working. Cheers. | gavwill (8974) | ||

Your case for example . XP works well when all the SP's and updates are installed or there wouldn't be so many units working now, so it's not that SP-2 is the problem, but the platform in which it is asked to operate is usually the culprit . . I still however see people not running with SP-2 as they get more and more scared of installing it because of all these strange happenings . With that in mind, most times there are so many conflicts with patches and Service Packs that it is best to burn it all down and start from scratch again with a clean install of XP and immediately getting all the updates and downloads from Microsoft before much else is installed . This technique seems to offer SP-2 a sounder operating base with not so many 0's and 1's to figure out . There may be a way to force it to work for you without going thru the burn-down, but if you haven't done it (a burn-down) in a long time, and I am guesssing that is true because of the lateness of your trying to get SP-2 now, then it might just be time for (NZ ?) "Winter Cleaning, not to be confused with "Spring Cleaning" . There are others here on this site who may not agree, but I like a clean system and all sorts of garbage and detritus get left behind whenever you visit places whilst surfing and installing and uninstalling stuff . I do not however believe mine is the only way . . . and I am sure that someone here will be of help if you decide to leave your harddrive in it's current state . I personally think it's a lot of sweat for little gain . |
