391412 2005-09-27 22:55:00 I'm 15 Years old and I was looking through my old games I had and my little brother found Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? and he really wanted to play it! So I went to install it and a window popped up saying:
16 Bit Windows Subsystem (Title of WIndow)
C:\PROGRA~1\Symantec\S32EVNT1.DLL
An Installable virtual Device Driver failed DLL initialization.
Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.

I press 'Ignore' then another window pops up saying:
16 Bit Windows Subsystem (Title of Window)
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT
The system file is not suitable for running applications. Choose 'Close to terminate the application.

What do I do? Is there a solution?
Thanks for the help!
P.S Also I have Windows XP

391413 2005-09-27 23:28:00 A quick Google turned up the following:

You get a DOS Virtual Device Driver failure after you install a program which generates one of the following error messages . If you ignore the message, the program may or may not run . The problem is caused by the program corrupting the VDD value .

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
drive:\program path
XXXX . An installable Virtual Device Driver failed DLL initialization . Choose 'Close' to terminate the application .

-or-

16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem
drive:\program path
SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDriv ers . VDD . Virtual Device Driver format in the registry is invalid . Choose 'Close' to terminate the application .
You can resolve the problem by deleting the value, followed by readding the value .

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDriv ers
Name: VDD
Type: REG_MULTI_SZ

Delete the value . When you re-add VDD, when the multi-string editor appears with a blank entry . Leave the entry blank and click OK This should resolve the problem . The problem shows up on Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems . It can occur in Windows NT if someone (or some program) deletes the VDD value .

Edited - Cos I spose I should ask if you know how to edit the registry :)

391418 2005-10-14 00:39:00 I am having similar problems, however with a different game. I already got DOSBox and set it up as instructed. However, it refuses to install from a cd rom, always saying that it is an illegal command. Does DOSBox only work with downloaded games or something?
