2005-10-01 00:07:00 | Bugger, i got rid of winmx when i heard they'd been shut down. Downloaded limewire yesterday and after re-installing java i'm back in busines ;-) (had to uninstall the latest version of java that i had only updated a week ago and reinstall it. Due to some errors i found out while uninstalling) Works good. Nice and easy to get to grips with. I think i was getting more targets with winmx though. Maybe wrong. Limewire may only be showing me the available targets were as winmx would show all?.

2005-10-01 02:31:00 | if you gonna use these P2P apps, kazaa lite resurection beats them all, but torrents takes the cake now..... | Prescott (11) | |
2005-10-01 04:44:00 | There won't really be any point in trying to use winmx, only geeks will use the fix, and then there won't be any point in using winmx coz therell sh*t all files shared. Move on. Theres a great list of the different networks and programs here : www.zeropaid.com I'd try Shareaza (under Multi-Network) and Limewire (Gnutella). If you want to experiment make sure you're not downloading programs with bundled spyware and adware. For info go here: www.spywareinfo.com And if you're good with computers then try peerweb DC++ here: http://dc.peerweb.org/

2005-10-01 06:00:00 | if you gonna use these P2P apps, kazaa lite resurection beats them all, but torrents takes the cake now..... LOL very very funny. Sorry i laughed for a while. Emule/Edonkey/Limware/kazaa are all very similar (and I have tried them all). Then there is DC++ which if you know how to use it and are in good international hubs is better than all of those put together x10 at least! So no kazaa light might be a good mainstream (average joe blow don't really know any better) P2P, but its not even close to the same league as good Internation DC++ hubs, the downside of DC++ is that you may need to share large amounts of quality "shareware cough" otherwise you will be booted, it is not a leech network like the others.

2005-10-01 06:57:00 | and yes there is DC that you mention.... which is pretty good too | Prescott (11) | |
2005-10-01 08:16:00 | Hehe I don't actually rate DC++ in the same catorgory as Emule or Kazaa etc. Most of these programs are lucky to average 100MB per user connected on average, hence the slow speeds and often long waits. With many International DC hubs demanding over 80gig+ to be in the hub, the Shared ratio per user is enormous, hence the very fast speeds and next to no wait times. DC++ is the elite P2P network, I accept many people haven't the resources to use it, and it is not as easy to get into as Emule etc. However I can't take the "Kazaa light and bittorrents are the best P2P statement" as it clearly is not correct if you have seen the difference. :dogeye:

2005-10-01 10:37:00 | Well, is WinMX up and running again or not??? I downloaded PIEPatch2.4, but just like snapper it stalls 2/3 through and the “Installation Failed” message appears. :( Anyone any thoughts? I really liked WinMX and it worked well for me.

2005-10-01 21:03:00 | Sorry to hear that the update patch hasn't worked for you,I wonder if you were to uninstal and then do a fresh install of WinMx,whether it would make a difference....when I heard that WinMx was no longer functioning I dumped it,but since then I have formatted and done a fresh install of XP and so I have now a fresh install of WinMx. As to the numbers of people using WinMx,there seems to be as many people downloading from me at the moment as there are normally...I tried the other programmes, edonkey, limewire etc but found that I was sharing files, but not getting anything I wanted in return, the queues were 2/3000 in length. So WinMx will do me... cheers ruup
