393168 2005-10-04 00:58:00 Hi there

Hope someone can help me out here . Not long ago I found that when I booted up my computer, not all the services in windows were loaded, I hope you guys know what I mean by services (the thing that you find when you type in msconfig in Run and the items under the Service tab) . When this happens, I wont be able to go on the net nor use any programs etc, only some program will load while some just wont .

What I want to know is what could cause this, cos this had happen to my other computers before and it always seem to happen for no apparent reason, eg works perfectly one day and the next day booting up the computer, nothing can be loaded >_< . Previously I just reformat Windows and everything will work perfectly again . As for the maintenance, I do, do regluar Av scans, ad-aware scans, spybot etc, scan disk, disk defrag, I have Norton System Work 2004 too, and use some of the window utilities on it, and yet this happens .

Now sometime 'SOME' services will load, enabling me to go on the net and use some programs though at very very random times, my computer will just shutdown for no apparent reason, though it always does it when I'm running some sort of program, eg media player or some games . I thought it would be my CPU temp or something, though the CPU temp runs around 30-40ºC and I have the safety thingy set to . . . . I think 60 or 70ºC . . . so . . . . .

This is just so confusing, and so random >_< . Any ideas or suggestion on how I could fix this or atleast prevent the random shutdowns >_< . Thanks

Specs: WinXP Pro, P4 2 . 4HT 800FSB, 512DDR400 and Enermax 485W PSU (at first I thought it was my 300W PSU that was causing all this random shutdown, after replacing the PSU, it was still the same >_<) .

Thanks ^^

393169 2005-10-04 01:24:00 are you runnin an up-to-date antivirus program and have you run a scan recently ? drcspy (146)

393171 2005-10-04 08:36:00 Sorry for the late reply, thought I made a reply post not long ago, though for some reason it did not actually post . Well, heres what I posted before .

As for the AV and other programs that I'm using, they're all up to date and have done scans with them very recently, especially after the services not loading properly . Though nothing was found so really dont know what to do with it, have manually looked though msconfig and the registry but found nothing weird  .

As for the memtest, I have done it before when I first brought my comp and several times after I made my comp to dual channel (2X DDR400, but this was SOME months ago) . Had no problems before, test run perfectly, though I'll do a run very soon, just to see if actually my ram had gone faulty or not, thanks for mentioning it though, totally forgot about the ram part .

As for the safe mode, well have been into it, though really never stayed long enough for it have that random reboot, though i found it does those reboots only when or at least for now, when I run some programs, eg media player or typing out a text file, though never happen during net surfing :o

Thanks

393173 2005-10-06 09:20:00 This thread has got me thinking. Have you updated all the drivers for your hardwares? Are you on Windows XP SP2 or SP1 or none? I hope these tips help.

Cheers :)
