393174 2005-10-04 00:05:00 Ok doing a defrag on both personal comps, peach is all good, Lemon has an enormous amount of red fragmented files? since the only things put back on this machine are games, what has caused this massive amount of reds being here?

it is irratic with its start ups 5 mins to windows log in screen yesterday and today about 40 seconds? this is before a defrag, is it dangerous to defrag?
I have not lost or deleted anything on lemon for so long, and the kids only play games on it.
it is good maintenance to defrag regularly isnt? how often?

Oh and defrag picks up all files? txt, doc and jpg? or what?

Give Lemon a good cleanout beet . Internet caches, temp files, etc, etc . Then do a hard disc check, then defrag .

Depending on usage, once a month for a defrag, if it's not showing too many defragmented files, try every six weeks or so . If the software is being constantly changed, or you're moving lots of/or big files around, then more often helps the time it takes things to be found on the drive and loaded .

I'd have a good look at Lemons start up environment . Turn anything off like Fast Find/Find Fast, OSA . exe and what ever varients you have depending on Windows and Office versions (XP isn't it, what version of Office?) . What's your AV, AVG? AHve you disabled unnecessary Services?

393176 2005-10-04 01:04:00 Its not used on the net.

The defragmentation would be caused simply by installing various programs.

As to why it took 5 minutes to boot?

Blame it on its heritage, it should have next to nothing in startup.System should be easily able to carry its load without needed any indepth tweaking of services and processors.

Defrag in safe mode.
