since this is a new page I might as well add the text from my last post into this one during my edit.

I only tried to reproduce the last solution on that page which was said to have solved the problem, the only thing Is I get an error message when I open up the program ToolbarCop as follows:

ToolbarCop
Run-time error '429':
Active X Component can't create object
OK

The program seems to open after I press OK, but nothing in the program seems to be functional, as in nothing happens when you select any of the options in the Main, Tools, or Help folders, or any other buttons for that matter.

I tried searching up that error message but came up with nothing (using Google).

392748 2005-10-16 07:25:00 Try redownloading Toolbarcop and reinstalling it.

I tried doing that with every mirror and had the same resualt (one mirror gave me a download that was so fudged my PC wouldn't allow me to open the zip.)

Anything I can do to update ActiveX? or maybe creating a new account would fix something....

392749 2005-10-16 07:31:00 It might be corrupt then. I wouldnt bother trying to get it to work.

Uninstall it, delete its folder and get rid of the registry entries with ccleaner.

And what exactly is Toolbarcop for? Popups? stopping ads, or what??

Get this and see what it picks up. It may not delete anything until u register, I think. BUT at least it may tell u what the prob is.

392750 2005-10-17 14:38:00 Toolbarcop is a program that finds toolbars intalled on your computer and is able to get rid of them, I believe. I got it after following the link given to me by gibler, it's what was used to resolve the issue I'm trying to resolve. You don't actually install the program, it works like Hijackthis (in it's own folder, or from the desktop if you wish).

how about this fourm thread (www.experts-exchange.com).

Don't bump too much, you'll wake the Spyware.

A slight bit more information on Toobarcop: windowsxp.mvps.org

392751 2005-10-17 20:41:00 Well, if u have SP2 installed, it gives you the option to disable BHO's/add-ons.

Did u try deleting those entries in the previous posts in safe mode, in the registry?

I've SP2 installed, so how do I go about disabling the BHO's/add-ons? (I guess toolbars are included in those catagories.) Do I disable all or specific ones?

Which entries in which posts? Could you copy the ones you're refering to and paste them in your next post? And do you want me to use any scanners or just go into regedit? Thanks for your continued efforts

392753 2005-10-18 01:58:00 Well, I dont know what add-ons are on your system .

BUT all you do is, open IE, and then go to tools/manage add-ons .

And u can disable, or enable whatever entries are there .

Well the entries that are in the registry (that have to be deleted), wont be here . You'll have to try and delete them in the registry . (this may or may not work in safe mode) .

Most scanners, cant find any nasties in the registry, only the hdd .

Altho, Xoftspy might . BUT, I dont think this removes anything until u register it .

392754 2005-10-18 02:24:00 I've run a registered version of Xoftspy.

Results: Vendor -> YourSiteBar, Type -> Registry Key, Category -> Toolbar, Object -> sofware\yoursitebar, Danger -> Annoyance (true)

Did it in normal mode this time (believe I did it in safe mode the first time I used it) could try in safe mode again though.

All the add-ons in IE are things I would need if I were doing most general browsing (plus I think disabling AIM, the Java Console, Adobe Photoshop and Windows messenger could have more effect than just within IE alone).
